From drone to satellite: remote sensing of biodiversity and aquaculture in coastal areas. Workshop at Hasanuddin University, 14th-15th December 2022

Workshop

As part of the collaboration between Indonesia and France funded by the NUSANTARA program, a workshop dedicated to remote sensing in coastal areas will be held at Hasanuddin University in Makassar (Sulawesi) in December 2022. Coastal areas are affected by current sea level rise and by increasing anthropogenic and climatic pressures. With the development of drone technology and the availability of new satellites, the increasing public access to satellite image archives, and the development of processing capabilities, remote sensing offers unique opportunities to map coastal ecosystems, analyze their structure and study their temporal dynamic.
This workshop school targets Indonesian postgraduate students, Ph.D. & Post-Doc students. It will be co-organized by French scientists from Nantes University and their colleagues from Hasanuddin University. During 2 days, intensive courses and practical exercises will cover broad conceptual approaches and in depth case studies. Lectures will cover a wide variety of subjects ranging from field spectroradiometry to satellite image analysis. A focus will be done on hyperspectral data analysis from the processing of reflectance spectra to the methods applied to images with a high spectral resolution. Crossed examples from coastal vegetation and aquaculture from Western Europe and Indonesia will be presented, in particular from the the BiCOME project (Biodiversity of the Coastal Ocean: Monitoring with Earth Observation) funded by European Space Agency

The number of applications will be limited to 20 students
